DO YOU BELIEVE IN GHOSTS?

North-East England, 1983. Two years ago, trainee singer Russell abandoned his home – and hardheaded mother, Maud – to attend a prestigious London conservatoire. Now he’s turned up on her doorstep in the middle of the night, begging for help.

Because there’s something wrong with him, something he suffered from once before as a child, but the symptoms were never this strange and severe. Rooms go cold, lights flare and flicker and Russell goes into trances, knowing things he can’t possibly know – there’s something within him, a presence that speaks to him, sings to him, and makes him dangerous to other people.

When doctors, therapists and the local church fail to offer a solution, Maud calls in a specialist: Father Miller, a young priest who specialises in ‘psychodivinity’ and believes Russell is suffering from a form of possession.

With a soundtrack of traditional songs, North-East folk music and 80s New Wave, Radiant Boy is a play with music about faith, shame and queerness, and finding connection through art.

Directed by Júlia Levai (National Theatre, RSC), and starring Stuart Thompson ('Spring Awakening' (Almeida), 'SAS: Rogue Heroes' (BBC)) & Renée Lamb (Original Cast of 'Six' (West End)), this haunting production promises to chill you to your core.
